Death by Chloroform

A High School Party Murder Mystery Game
For 10 players

Chemistry class just got toxic.

Two weeks ago, Mr. Milton was found dead in his classroom — poisoned with chloroform. (So much for extra credit.)

Yesterday, the Sports Pavilion mysteriously went up in flames. Ooops!

Tonight, Catherine Malone is throwing the party of the semester. The music’s blasting. The gossip’s flowing. And ten guests have arrived — armed with secrets, grudges, and seriously questionable alibis.

Because in high school, drama is mandatory.

And one of you is a killer.

Meet the Suspects

  • Catherine Malone
Party host. Recently suspended. Not remotely sorry.
Catherine is fiercely loyal, socially fearless, and determined that tonight goes perfectly - despite a murderer being on the loose. If drama starts, she’ll handle it. She always does.

  • Matthew Malone
Charming. Connected. Very aware of it.
Matthew knows everyone’s secrets - or at least pretends to. Losing valedictorian to Max Mercedes still stings, but he’d never admit that. Especially not tonight.

  • David Digby
    Underestimated. Calculated. Surprisingly bold.
David has mastered the art of flying under the radar. People assume he’s harmless - and he rarely corrects them. But the quiet ones often see the most… and sometimes they act on it.

  • Ricky Raquette
    Star athlete. Professional hype‑man.
Ricky lives for competition and attention. If the energy dips, he fixes it. If tensions rise, he laughs it off. But even he knows that when someone ends up dead, this isn’t just a game anymore.

  • Max Mercedes
Car‑obsessed. Blunt. Newly crowned valedictorian. After “helping” Mr. Milton with his car, Max’s academic rise was sudden - and suspiciously convenient. Confidence isn’t his problem. Subtlety is.

  • Sandy Sparks
    Walking headline. Human group chat.
If something happens at this school, Sandy already knows - and she probably improved the story. She thrives on chaos, and tonight’s guest list is practically a gift.

  • Jean Milton
Daughter of the murdered teacher. Sharp‑tongued. Unforgiving. Never one to miss an opportunity to put others in their place - even while grieving. She wasn’t invited… yet here she is.

  • Lily Ledger
Top of the class. Cool under pressure. Always thinking.
Lily doesn’t miss details. While others are distracted by gossip and grudges, she’s quietly connecting dots. If anyone can separate drama from evidence, it’s her.

  • Brittany Brook
    Bubbly. Social. Frequently underestimated.
Brittany loves a good party and even better gossip. Recently accused of throwing a locker‑room punch, she insists there’s more to that story. There usually is.

  • Bruce Wilder
The Australian exchange student. Athletic. Hard to read.
Bruce fits in easily - maybe a little too easily. Outdoorsy, confident, and new enough to avoid suspicion… or attract it. No one knows much about him. Yet.

The Story

Welcome to a high school where popularity is currency, gossip spreads faster than wildfire, and grudges don’t die quietly.

Mr. Milton’s murder has left more than grief behind. It’s left suspicion and a whole lot of drama.

Can you uncover what really happened — before someone else gets hurt?

How Do You Play It?

Death by Chloroform is a guided‑improv murder mystery that’s dramatic, beginner‑friendly, and packed with high‑school chaos.

Each player receives:

  • A fully developed character booklet

  • Personal secrets and motivations

  • Individual objectives to pursue during the game

The night doesn’t begin with polite small talk.

It begins with a party cup challenge.

What’s a high‑school party without a little competition?

But this isn’t just for bragging rights. The losers must reveal one of their secrets - immediately.

And in a room full of suspects, that changes everything.

From there, the mystery unfolds through shifting alliances, whispered accusations, secret objectives, and mounting evidence. Players question one another, complete tasks, examine clues, and try to separate drama from deadly truth.
